From the Commandant

Welcome to the Johnny Micheal Spann Detachment's web site. We are proud to share our history, traditions and goals with you.

The world is familiar with the United States Marine Corps' reputation for dedication and sacrifice in time of peace and war. That reputation is well deserved.

Less well known are the contributions that hundreds of thousands of former Marines have made to their country and communities. They often go unnoticed but are respected as family members and citizens in every small town and any large city. Every Marine will acknowledge the profound effect the Marine Corps had on molding them into the men and women they are today. They learned values of discipline, moral and physical courage, loyalty and team work. They learned they could expect more of themselves and achieve higher goals than before. After all, they were – and are Marines!

"Once a Marine, Always a Marine" is more than a slogan. It is real for Marines. The "Mike" Spann Detachment of the Marine Corps League is a more formal, organized way for Marines to again serve Marines and their families, past and present, while promoting the ideals and goals of the Marine Corps to future Marines and their families.

Our Detachment, while young, will forge a reputation for service based on performance in the Marine Corps "family" and community at large. There are challenges ahead but Marines are familiar with challenges. We will not fall short. We are Marines!
